Drivers often use 'AdBlue' and 'DPF' interchangeably, but they're different systems dealing with different pollutants. Knowing which one is at fault saves money and stops you paying for the wrong repair.
What the DPF does
The diesel particulate filter traps soot particles in the exhaust and periodically burns them off in a regeneration cycle.
DPF problems show up as blocked-filter warnings, frequent regens, oil dilution and heavy smoke — typically on vehicles doing lots of short, cold journeys.
What AdBlue / SCR does
AdBlue is a urea solution injected into the exhaust to convert nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water across the SCR catalyst.
AdBlue problems show up as fluid warnings, mileage countdowns to no-start, and NOx sensor fault codes — regardless of journey length.
How to tell which one is faulty
Any message mentioning AdBlue, DEF, urea, emissions inducement or 'no start in X miles' is SCR-related.
Any message about a blocked filter, particulate filter, or an instruction to drive at speed for 20 minutes is DPF-related.
A proper ECU scan settles it in minutes — the fault codes point clearly to one system or the other.
Our position on the DPF
We only work on the AdBlue/SCR side. We deliberately leave the DPF fully functional so your vehicle remains MOT-compliant, because the DPF is physically inspected during the MOT.
If your fault turns out to be DPF-related rather than AdBlue, we'll tell you honestly instead of selling you a fix you don't need.

Is AdBlue removal the same as DPF removal?+

Can a DPF problem trigger an AdBlue warning?+
Indirectly, yes — repeated failed regenerations can raise exhaust temperatures and disturb NOx sensor readings, which can log SCR codes. A full scan identifies the root cause.
